Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175C (350F) and line a square pan.
- Whisk the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- Fold in the flour and salt until just combined, then stir in the chocolate chips.
- Spread the batter in the pan.
- Bake for 22 to 25 minutes until the center is just set, then cool before cutting.
💡 Chef's tip
Underbake them slightly and let them cool in the pan; they firm up as they cool and stay chewy rather than dry.
Melting the butter and using brown sugar is what gives blondies their signature butterscotch flavor and dense, chewy texture, distinct from a cake-like bar.
