Ingredients
- 600 g ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 250 g mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Mix the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper, then shape into oval patties.
- Brown the patties in a skillet on both sides, then set aside.
- Saute the onion and mushrooms in the same pan until soft.
- Sprinkle in the flour, cook for 1 minute, then whisk in the broth.
- Simmer the gravy until thickened, then return the patties.
- Simmer 10 minutes until cooked through, then serve over mashed potatoes.
💡 Chef's tip
Add a spoonful of the same beef broth to the patty mixture; it keeps the patties moist and tender as they cook in the gravy.
Simmering the browned patties directly in the gravy finishes cooking them while infusing both the meat and sauce with deep, savory flavor.
