Muhammara

Muhammara

Muhammara is a bold Middle Eastern dip of roasted red peppers and walnuts with a sweet-spicy, tangy depth. Smoky, nutty, and a little sweet from pomegranate molasses, it is unforgettable. Serve it as a dip with pita or a spread alongside grilled meats.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups roasted red peppers
  • 1 cup walnuts, toasted
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp pomegranate molasses
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp each cumin and chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Toast the walnuts in a dry pan until fragrant.
  2. Add the roasted peppers, walnuts, breadcrumbs, garlic, cumin, and chili to a food processor.
  3. Blend to a coarse paste.
  4. Add the pomegranate molasses and olive oil and blend until combined.
  5. Season with salt and adjust the sweet-tangy balance.
  6. Serve drizzled with olive oil and pita for dipping.

💡 Chef's tip

Toast the walnuts first to deepen their flavor before blending them into the dip.

Pomegranate molasses is the secret ingredient, adding a tangy-sweet complexity that balances the smoky peppers and rich walnuts.
