Classic Lemonade

Classic Lemonade

Classic homemade lemonade is the perfect balance of sweet and tart, endlessly refreshing on a hot day. Made with fresh-squeezed lemons and a simple syrup, it tastes worlds better than any powdered mix. Serve it over ice with lemon slices for the ultimate summer drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • to serve ice
  • to garnish lemon slices

Instructions

  1. Make a simple syrup by warming the sugar with 1 cup of the water until fully dissolved, then cool.
  2. Juice the lemons to get 1 cup of fresh juice.
  3. Combine the simple syrup, lemon juice, and remaining 3 cups of water in a pitcher.
  4. Taste and adjust with more water or sugar to your liking.
  5. Chill until cold.
  6. Serve over ice with lemon slices.

💡 Chef's tip

Roll the lemons firmly on the counter before juicing; it breaks the membranes inside so they release noticeably more juice.

Dissolving the sugar into a simple syrup first, rather than stirring it into cold water, is the trick to lemonade that is evenly sweetened without gritty undissolved sugar at the bottom.
