Mozzarella Sticks
Homemade mozzarella sticks are crispy on the outside with an irresistible gooey, melty cheese pull inside. A double coating gives them the crunchy crust that holds the cheese in. Serve them hot with marinara for dipping, and watch them vanish.

Ingredients
- 12 sticks mozzarella string cheese
- 1/2 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 1.5 cups breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- for frying oil
- to serve marinara sauce
Instructions
- Set up a breading station of flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning.
- Coat each cheese stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs, then repeat the egg and breadcrumbs.
- Freeze the breaded sticks for at least 1 hour until solid.
- Heat oil to 180C (350F).
- Fry the sticks in batches for 1 to 2 minutes until golden, working fast so the cheese does not melt out.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with marinara.
💡 Chef's tip
Double-bread the sticks, dipping them in egg and breadcrumbs twice, to seal in the cheese and prevent leaks in the hot oil.
Freezing the breaded sticks before frying is the essential step, because cold cheese fries to golden crisp before it can melt out, giving the perfect cheese pull.
