Ingredients
- 4 slices bread
- 4 slices cheddar cheese, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter or mayonnaise
Instructions
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices butter-side down in a cold pan.
- Layer the cheese on top and close with the remaining bread, butter-side up.
- Cook over medium-low heat until the bottom is golden, about 4 minutes.
- Flip and cook until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted.
- Slice in half and serve hot.
💡 Chef's tip
Spread mayonnaise instead of butter on the outside for an even, extra-crispy golden crust that does not burn as easily.
Cooking the sandwich low and slow is the secret, giving the cheese time to fully melt before the bread over-browns, so you get a crisp crust and a molten center.
