Tuna Melt

Tuna Melt

A tuna melt is the ultimate comforting sandwich: creamy tuna salad and melted cheese grilled between crisp, buttery bread. The contrast of the warm, gooey filling and golden crust is pure satisfaction. It is a quick, budget-friendly lunch ready in 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans canned tuna, drained
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Mix the drained tuna with the mayonnaise, celery, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  2. Butter one side of each bread slice.
  3. Place two slices butter-side down and top with cheese, then the tuna, then more cheese.
  4. Close the sandwiches with the remaining bread, butter-side up.
  5. Grill in a pan over medium-low heat until golden, pressing gently.
  6. Flip and grill until the cheese melts and both sides are crisp, then serve.

💡 Chef's tip

Drain the tuna well and go easy on the mayo; a too-wet filling makes the sandwich soggy instead of crisp.

Griddling the assembled sandwich low and slow lets the cheese fully melt before the bread burns, giving that perfect molten center under a crisp crust.
