Classic BLT Sandwich

Classic BLT Sandwich

The classic BLT is a timeless sandwich layering crisp bacon, juicy tomato, and fresh lettuce between slices of toasted bread spread with mayonnaise. Its appeal lies in the contrast of salty, smoky bacon against cool, sweet tomato and crunchy greens. Serve it freshly assembled while the bacon is still warm and the toast is crisp.

Ingredients

  • 4 strips bacon
  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 leaves lettuce
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Lay the bacon in a cold skillet, then turn the heat to medium and cook slowly, turning occasionally, until the strips are evenly crisp and deeply browned.
  2. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel lined plate to drain and crisp up further while you prepare the rest.
  3. Toast two slices of bread until golden and crunchy, then let them cool for a minute so the steam escapes.
  4. Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise over the inner side of each slice, covering all the way to the edges.
  5. Slice a ripe tomato about 1 cm thick, lay the slices on a paper towel, and sprinkle them lightly with salt to draw out excess moisture.
  6. Layer crisp lettuce leaves on one slice of toast, followed by the salted tomato slices and the bacon.
  7. Top with the second slice of toast, mayo side down, press gently, then slice the sandwich diagonally and serve immediately.

💡 Chef's tip

Toast the bread and let it cool for a moment before spreading mayo on both inner sides, because the mayo forms a moisture barrier that keeps the bread from going soggy against the tomato.

Toasting the bread and spreading mayo to the very edges creates a moisture barrier, so the BLT stays crisp instead of going soggy from the tomato.
